FAQ

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM AN APPOINTMENT?

A standard appointment is 60 minutes in length.  If your child has complex needs, your initial appointment may need to be longer. Your physio will talk to you about your child’s strengths and areas of need, current management, and what your goals might be. Assessment and intervention occur during play and age appropriate activities, with the focus being on engaging your child and identifying ways to incorporate physiotherapy strategies into their everyday life. Physio should be fun and meaningful, and focus on helping your child successfully participate in home, sport and school.  The goal of any physiotherapy appointment is to give your family the skills to successfully manage your child’s condition at home. Intervention may include: report writing and assessment, communication with other members of your health team, contact with daycare or school supports, equipment trial and prescription, developing a home program, training up other care givers, and hands on therapy.

WHERE DO YOU OPERATE? WHEN ARE YOU AVAILABLE?

Play Strong has a clinic in Birkdale, operating out of a purpose built physiotherapy space in a residential area. Parking is available on site, and we aim to create a setting which is warm and inviting.  The clinic is easily accessible to many parts of South-East Brisbane and the Redlands, and is within 20 mins drive of Wellington Point, Thorneside, Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Ormiston, Lota, Wakerley, Ransome, Gumdale, Belmont, Wynnum, Manly, Tingalpa, Sheldon, Cleveland, Belmont and Carindale. We are also located within 10 mins of many lovely post therapy spots, from Beth Boyd park to Wellington Point Farm and Wellington Point Reserve.

We also do home and school visits as required to support you in achieving your goals.

Casey also consultants out of NAP Care in South Brisbane 1-2 days a month, primarily seeing infants and toddlers who will benefit from a multidisciplinary approach with the wonderful team of allied health and paediatricians at the clinic.

CAN I USE MY NDIS FUNDING? CAN I CLAIM A REBATE FROM MEDICARE OR MY PRIVATE HEALTH FUND? DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

We support many families on self or plan managed NDIS plans.  If you have ancillary ("Extras") cover, you will be able to submit your invoice to your Private Health fund for a rebate (HICAPS codes 500/505).  Clients with a Chronic Disease Management Plan from their GP may attract a partial rebate by submitting their invoice to Medicare.

Our fee structure is the same regardless of your method of payment. Payment is available electronically at the time of appointment, or via emailed invoice for Plan Managed NDIS clients, offsite visits or non-face to face requests.

You do not need a referral to access physiotherapy services, though referrals are very welcome.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

Initial appointments can be made by emailing casey@playstrongphysiotherapy.com.au, or completing the contact form.

Appointments are triaged, and we attempt to have all infants or high acuity clients seen for assessment within 2 weeks of referral/contact.

Appointments are available on weekdays, with a small number of before and after school appointments available.

DO YOU OFFER TELEHEALTH?

While face to face appointments are optimal, many families living regionally do not have equitable access to paediatric physiotherapy services. We currently provide support to a number of regional families across Queensland and Northern NSW through a mixture of telehealth, home programs,  face to face reviews when in Brisbane for other appointments/family visits, and supporting skill development in local practitioners

DO YOU OFFER PROFESSIONAL MENTORING?

Casey is passionate about supporting developing physiotherapists to increase their confidence, clinical reasoning and knowledge base. Particularly in private and community settings, mentoring opportunities can be limited, and many clinicians are eager to establish formal professional networks.  As well as teaching in the undergraduate program at the Australian Catholic University, Casey provides individual and group professional development and mentoring support.  Inquiries can be made to casey@playstrongphysiotherapy.com.au
